ACADEMIC ASPECTS
Area of Language
Students take part in several reading, writing and speaking events through which they become competent language users, thus fostering the expression, communication and acquisition of knowledge. Moreover, since the early stages they approach literature, discovering the pleasure that lies in reading.
Every year students participate in the Language Fair, an institutional project involving all levels, in which students have the opportunity of sharing their productions in the different genres short-stories, poetry, legends, etc.
Students take part in several projects aiming at increasing their acquisition of reading and writing skills.
• Short-story Competition
• Compilation of the Annual Anthology
• Reading Marathon
• The Library pays a visit
• Theatre plays

Area of Mathematics
We propose an actively built maths. Our proposal is to do mathematics as a thinking task, building the concepts to solve problems, concepts that become articulated with one another by means of successive structuring and destructuring.
Mistakes are conceived as a necessary step in the learning process and constitute the opportunity of building new concepts and relationships.
As from 5th form in Junior School, students take part in the Argentinean Mathematic Olympic Games, where their performance is outstanding. They have reached the highest levels in this contest, competing against students from all over the country. In addition, every year students prepare and share with their families several projects aiming at creating interest and enhancing learning.
• Photography and Mathematics Contest
• Measurement Fair
• Statistics Session
• Mathematical Games
• Use of the calculator at school
• Florence Nightingale Olympic Games

Social Studies Area
Along Junior School students acquire a solid knowledge of national history, learn how to look for information from different sources (1), how to interpret it and summarize it. Reflection on political and social issues emerging from the contents studied is encouraged.
(1) Library: Students visit the library at will, consulting different materials in order to study in depth the topics in the curricular areas. The librarian periodically revises the existing material, discarding outdated items and updating the library by purchasing new books. In addition, the librarian organizes activities to encourage reading and make the approach to books easier.

Computer Lab: Students use this resource to enrich the topics they are dealing with. They consult Internet websites suitable for the topic and the students’ level, with the guidance of their teachers.
In 2008 the whole school was involved in the Social Studies Fair. Students from 1st to 6th form worked on concepts such as past and present, notions of change and continuity, evolution, and the eldest students became acquainted with the diverse native cultures that populated and still populate our land.

The visit to the Museo del Instituto Nacional de Antropología y Pensamiento Latinoamericano (Museum of the National Institute of Latin American Anthropology and Thought) helped enrich the project, which was exhibited in the month of July.
At different moments in the school year students do guided tours of museums, institutions and neighbourhoods in the city (2). On these occasions, they observe the remaining proof of past historical events, i.e. the traces of culture. From these observations and the data collected they build the concepts that will allow them to gradually understand the social and political framework.
(2) Some neighbourhoods visited:
• La Boca
• Plaza de Mayo, Catedral
• Abasto
• San Isidro Old Quarter

Natural Science Area
Through the work in this area students acquire the knowledge and develop the required critical thinking skills in order to become active agents for the protection of the environment and of all forms of life. They understand the processes of transformation that different materials experience when they are exposed to environmental factors and to human intervention. They develop skills and abilities related to research/ hypotheses formulation, analysis of variables, register of observations, etc. Annually, students visit institutions that become valuable sources of concrete and updated information.
• Food factories
• Fargo
• La Serenisima
• Freddo
• Zoo, botanical gardens
• Museo Participativo de Ciencias (Interactive Science Museum)
